Tuna salad isn’t just your grandma’s old recipe; it’s a healthy go -to classic for lunch! Whether you’re feeding the little ones who aren't a fan of red onion or green things or needing a quick-nutritious lunch to whip up for yourself & hubby or friends over for a playdate, I have two simple and tasty tuna salad recipes that will make everyone's tummies happy.




The Kid’s Version: Classic Tuna Salad


Ingredients


  • 1 can of tuna (drained, about 5 ounces)

  • 2 large spoonfuls of mayonnaise

  • 1 teaspoon of dijon mustard

  • 1 large spoonful of sweet relish

  • sprinkle of salt


Instructions

  1. Prepare the Tuna: Flake the drained tuna in a mixing bowl using a fork, breaking it into smaller pieces.


  2. Mix Ingredients: Add all ingredients to the bowl. Mix until all ingredients are well combined.


  3. Serve: Served on homemeade sourdough bread with a side of fruit.

This tuna salad is packed with protein and omega-3 fatty acids. Each serving provides approximately 20 grams of protein, making it ideal for growing kids.


The Mama Version: Healthy-ish Tuna Salad

  • 2 cans of wild-caught tuna (drained, about 5 ounces)

  • 1/2 cup or more of mayo (a healthier alternative would be plain greek yogurt)

  • 1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard

  • 1/8-1/4 cup of diced red onion

  • 2 stalks of celery diced

  • 1 tablespoon of fresh dill and/or parsley. If using dried herbs reduce to 1 teaspoon.

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Juice from 1/2 of a lemon
